Highland Fold Update..

A year ago, Ted and Emma arrived from Yorkshire to join our Glen Nevis Fold. They quickly became stars of our Walks and Hairy Cow Experience.

This autumn, Emma gave birth to Solas, a beautiful, friendly calf. We also introduced ‘no-fence’ collars, helping manage grazing while keeping an eye on the herd. Winter saw the cattle roaming the roadside for food, creating a bit of traffic chaos but delighting many visitors.

Our herders Lisette & Mitch are going to be busy keeping an eye on our young ones but it will be a great opportunity to book onto one of their tours to get respectfully close to our herd.

Our fold aren’t just pretty faces, they are also playing a huge role in our land regeneration project. By using rotational grazing with ‘no-fence’ collars, we are able to use the cattle to mimic large herbivores that once roamed here. Increasing the organic matter content leads to higher yields, better water retention and an increase in the diversity of the plant and animal community. These fundamentally support the health of the ecosystem and the surrounding landscape.

Cameron Facilities Update!

Visitors to the site in the past year will have noticed that we're in the midst of replacing the facilities building in the centre of Cameron Field.  It's fair to say it's taken longer than we hoped and we're very grateful for everyone who might have been inconvenienced by the construction works, but we're confident that it's going to be worth the wait...
This project is the first stage in a programme of upgrades planned for all of our facilities buildings across the park, but this one is extra special because it's going to mean that we will be able to open the campsite in the winter!
Constructing a new building is a huge investment of resources, so we wanted to make sure we got it right.  Working with our consultants, John Gilbert Architects, Luths Services and Harley Haddow Associates, we have designed a building that is going to be extremely energy efficient with zero-carbon operational emissions, unisex facilities within individual rooms, an indoor campers kitchen and even a dedicated facility to wash your muddy boots.
We're looking forward to sharing more information about some of the special energy saving features in future newsletters.  In the meantime, here's an image from the main internal circulation area looking up to the central roof window that will bathe the space in natural light and reduce artificial lighting requirements during the daytime.  Hopefully it will give you a flavour of the quality we're aiming to achieve in the finished building.

Behind the Scenes: A Huge Thank You!!

While the campsite has been closed, our incredible Grounds, Maintenance and Operations teams have been working tirelessly behind the scenes, ensuring everything is in top shape for the new season. From essential repairs to site improvements, they’ve been out in all that Scottish winter weather—rain, wind and the occasional snowstorm—getting the job done! ❄️🌧️💨

We appreciate their hard work more than words can say—thank you for keeping Glen Nevis running smoothly! 👏👏

Massive thank you to our wonderful teams in Housekeeping and the Office for their hard work and dedication in keeping the lodges and cottages running smoothly and being on hand to take all your calls and bookings through the winter. You truly are the heart of it all and we appreciate everything that you do!

We’re taking a trip back to 1977! We love receiving these nostalgic snapshots from our customers- It’s amazing to see how much has changed (and how much has stayed the same!). Meall an t-Suidhe looks just as timeless, but the campsite has certainly evolved over the years. And how groovy were those cars?

🌿 Spring Walk Highlight: The Steall Falls Trail 🌿

As spring awakens Glen Nevis, there’s no better time to explore the stunning Steall Falls Trail. This classic walk is a must-do, offering a mix of dramatic scenery, ancient woodland and a breathtaking waterfall—all within a relatively short and accessible hike.

Distance: 3.5 km (2.2 miles) return

Time: 1.5 - 2 hours

Difficulty: Moderate

Start Point: Upper Glen Nevis car park (narrow road access)

What to Expect

This well-loved trail takes you through the beautiful Nevis Gorge, where you’ll be surrounded by moss-covered trees, tumbling streams and the calls of birds returning for spring. The path is rocky in places with some uneven sections, but the rewards are worth it. As you emerge from the gorge, the valley opens up dramatically revealing the spectacular Steall Falls, one of Scotland’s highest waterfalls.

For the adventurous, there's the famous wire bridge near the falls—perfect for a daring crossing, or just a fun photo stop! Springtime brings fresh greenery, blooming wildflowers and the sight of deer grazing in the Glen.

Why Walk It in Spring?

🌼 Wildflowers & Fresh Growth – Spot early blooms like primroses and wood anemones carpeting the forest floor.
🌞 Milder Weather – Crisp but refreshing air makes the climb comfortable.
🦌 Wildlife Spotting – Keep an eye out for red deer, golden eagles, and playful mountain hares.

Top Tip: Wear sturdy boots, as the trail can be muddy after rain. Don’t forget a flask of tea to enjoy while taking in the view of the falls!

Whether you’re visiting Glen Nevis for the first time or a regular explorer, this walk is a springtime gem you won’t want to miss.

Have you heard about Nevis Nature Network?

Spanning 22,000 acres, the Nevis Nature Network project area covers a vast array of native habitats, from ancient riparian woodland along the River Nevis, to fragments of Caledonian Forest and Scottish Rainforest, up to rare montane scrub on mountain cliffs. It also includes land with both European and Scottish habitat designations: Ben Nevis Special Area of Conservation and Ben Nevis Special Site of Scientific Interest. This iconic landscape attracts around half a million visitors every year with well over one hundred thousand of those summiting Ben Nevis.

Our shared vision is:

To restore a rich mosaic of woodland habitats, across Ben Nevis and Glen Nevis, to secure the future of our rare and vulnerable local species and to share wild places with communities near and far.

That’s all for our spring round-up – we hope you're as excited as we are for the season ahead! Keep an eye out for our summer newsletter, where we’ll be sharing even more updates, events, and ways to make the most of your time in Glen Nevis.
